Toilet Bowls: Questions We Get Asked
How do I know which toilet bowl will fit my bathroom?
Check whether your waste outlet is in the floor or the wall, then measure it. For a floor outlet, measure from the centre of the waste hole to the wall behind, to the tiles and not the skirting. In Singapore these are usually quoted in inches, and 6 inch (150mm) and 10 inch (250mm) are the most common. For a wall outlet, measure from the floor to the centre of the hole. Send us a photo and your measurement and we will match you to a bowl that fits.
Can I use a P-trap toilet bowl on a floor outlet?
Yes. With a bend pan collar, a P-trap bowl can connect to a floor outlet. It is a common solution when the outlet is very close to the wall and a standard S-trap bowl will not fit.
What is a pan collar?
A pan collar is the connector between the toilet bowl outlet and the waste pipe. An offset collar lets an S-trap bowl shift about 1 to 2 inches closer to or further from the wall, a bend collar lets a P-trap bowl connect to a floor outlet, and a straight collar connects a P-trap bowl to a wall outlet. Pan collars are often sold separately, so check the product page.
Is a rimless toilet bowl worth it?
For most homes, yes. A rimless bowl has no hidden rim under the edge where dirt and bacteria collect, so it is much easier to wipe clean. Many TOTO, American Standard and E+NT models in this range are rimless.
Should I choose a wall-hung or floor-mounted toilet bowl?
A floor-mounted bowl fits most existing bathrooms as they are and is the simpler choice. A wall-hung bowl leaves the floor clear, but needs a concealed cistern and frame behind a false wall, so it is best planned during a renovation. Our wall-hung or floor-mounted guide compares them.
What do the WELS ticks on a toilet bowl mean?
WELS is PUB's Water Efficiency Labelling Scheme. For dual flush cisterns, a 2-tick rating means a full flush of more than 3.5 up to 4.0 litres, and a 3-tick rating means 3.5 litres or less. More ticks means less water used every flush.
Can you install the toilet bowl for me?
Yes. Lucky Khoon has an in-house installation team, so we can supply and install your toilet bowl. Ask our team at any of our showrooms or call us to arrange it.
Do I need an HDB permit to change my toilet bowl?
No. Replacing a toilet bowl in an HDB flat does not need an HDB permit, even in the first 3 years. Retiling is different. Our HDB bathroom renovation guide explains what needs a permit and the 3-year rule for new flats.
Is there a full guide to choosing a toilet bowl?
Yes. Our guide on how to choose a toilet bowl that fits covers measuring your outlet, common sizes in Singapore, pan collars and which bowl suits which outlet.
